Theology for a World in Transformation (Master)
What is the aim of the Master’s degree programme?
The 21st century is characterized by profound processes of transformation: ecological crises, political conflicts, technological innovations, and more, which are raising fundamental questions of orientation in an increasingly globalized world marked by (religious) pluralism. This is happening at both the personal and the societal levels. The Church and theology are part of these transformation processes. At the same time theology offers the potential to deal responsibly with transformation processes and the challenges that accompany them. The new master’s degree programme addresses this challenge in two ways:
On the one hand, the outlined horizon becomes the starting point to get to know Catholic theology in interdisciplinary discourse as a discipline that is relevant to the present context and is itself undergoing change. On the other hand, the transforming world also forms the goal of the program: Catholic theology is explored as a (self-) critical science that, based on its self-image, influences social discourse and can contribute to the humane shaping of society and the world. Why should you study in our programme?
- You will learn to think theologically, argue clearly, and work independently in complex contexts
- You will get an interdisciplinary training in human sciences and communications, and develop key competencies in both areas
- You will gain the tools necessary for high-level study in systematic theology, ethics, liturgy, church history and much more…
> You will get to know theology as an interdisciplinary subject with different methods and approaches.
Career prospects
You will gain an international, European academic degree that will offer you a variety of opportunities.
- Pursue an academic career in theological research and teaching
- Work in organisations where transformation processes are key to human improvement, such as NGOs
- Work in organisations that are engaged in social development, international, mission or aid programmes
- Lead and innovate in youth and adult education, catechesis, or church administration
- Work in pastoral ministry or religious education
You will be equipped to do theology in a rapidly changing world!
