AI-driven Mechatronics and Robotics (Master of Science)

The Master's degree programme AI-driven Mechatronics and Robotics prepares students for a future-proof career in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning. It is offered by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in cooperation with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy. The focus is on the integration of mechanics, electronics and computer science to develop advanced technical systems.

Students gain a deep understanding of complex mechatronic systems and learn to analyze and describe the interaction of mechanical, electrical and information technology components. They develop skills in the design, modelling and testing of mechatronic systems and in the optimization of their integration for various applications. The programme prepares students to lead interdisciplinary teams, communicate technical issues effectively and compete in the global marketplace. By utilizing the strengths of different technical disciplines, graduates are able to succeed in the innovative fields of AI-driven mechatronics and robotics.

AI-driven Mechatronics and Robotics is a study track in the German-language master's programme Mechatronics and Robotics.

Course Content
  • Data- and AI-driven Methods in Engineering
  • Data- and Learning Based Control
  • Robotics I
  • German language course
  • Artificial Intelligence I
  • Electrical Machines and Drives
  • Sustainability Assessment I
  • MOOC Aircraft Engines

Course Structure

The Master's programme in AI-driven Mechatronics and Robotics is structured around three core modules:

  • "Data- and AI-driven Methods in Engineering,"
  • "Data- and Learning Based Control," and
  • "Robotics I,"

which are taught by the faculties of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

A German language course is also mandatory, providing international students with basic language skills to navigate everyday life and enhance internship opportunities. A more advanced German language course can also be taken on a voluntary basis as part of the ‘Studium Generale’ module.

Students can further specialize through elective modules and participate in a student research project. A key component is an industrial or specialized internship lasting at least 12 weeks, which applies theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting and aids in career development. The program culminates in the development and defense of a Master's thesis, which is written and presented depending on the subject area at one of the faculties involved in the programme.

Recommended Abilities
Students of the AI-driven Mechatronics and Robotics Master's programme should have a good capacity for imagination and abstraction. Technical understanding, an interest in mathematics and logical thinking are also important. Good foreign language skills are very important for later career entry.

Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Master's programme in AI-Driven Mechatronics and Robotics are equipped to develop and optimize mechatronic systems based on research principles. They test and implement complex mechatronic systems in accordance with scientific standards and given conditions.

Additionally, they analyze fields of application to develop suitable solutions and systematically tackle complex problems with creative and interconnected thinking. Furthermore, they effectively moderate interdisciplinary teams, manage specialized projects, and clearly communicate technical issues and work results.
